What is Pep listening to; September 12, 2012?

Everything ever made by the Gorillaz...seriously.  I found this playlist on YouTube (lol, yep, my favorite stomping grounds).  I wanted to figure out the entire story behind their animated videos and maybe become familiar with the entire concept of having a virtual band with no steady human members.  David Albarn of the group The Blur is the one constant member.  The rest is just a collaboration between other artists; the focus on hip hop, dubstep, electronic, and alternative.

They have become more successful then I even knew.  For instance, I had no idea that their first album Gorillaz sold 7 millions copies and earned them a place in the Guineas book of world records for the most successful virtual band.  Their second album, the one that includes Feel Good Inc went five times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the states.  I figured they were worth a second listen to and haven't stopped in nearly a week!  You can't really go wrong when your guests are Bobby Womack, Mos Def, Dennis Hopper, Dela Soul.  Oh and I forgot to mention the five Grammy award norminations in 2006.

  1. The Gorillaz are pretty awesome! My favorite song is El Manana! And thanx for making this post because I would have never even seen that they had a new CD out this year!

  2. OMG you have to listen to listen to Melancholy Hill, it is so mellow! Unfortunately the play list does not include that particular song. And yes, I love El Manana. Noodles was killed when the floating Island fell, and then they created a cyborg Noodles...and then turns out she's not dead. Sigh, I've become a Gorillaz geek!

  3. Thanx I will!! This was my first ever review! Just saw that you had a blog yesterday, and then I saw the Gorillaz and had to comment!! I Love all of your stories and I think its awesome that your brave enough to put yourself out there. I've always wanted to write my own stories but I'm know where near good enough! But I love getting lost in these stories!

  4. Love Gorillaz! But right now I am obsessed with Pricilla Renea! If I listen to Hung Up or Nothing but L-O-V-E one more time I will officially be a stan. Damn Youtube!

  5. @Nik, I so know what you mean! I've got three stories ready for an editor (hint-hint anybody lol) but then I psyche myself out when I read my fave authors.

I remember when the Gorillaz released their self titled album round 2002ish. I never took much notice till a friend said they were signed with Parlophone (for those who know their music, Geogre Martin was a young talent scout back in the 50's/60's. Thanks to him he signed one of the greatest bands in the world in 1962 - The Beatles!!) So, I was intrigued.

Several years later when they released Demon Days I was a Gorillaz junkie lol. Nearly every night club that had a projector screen used to play their video clips. Instead of dancing, we used to mimic the animated characters and drive imaginary cars - and this was before the true 'frivolty' of the night would begin lol.

  6. Last Breath, I'm the same way. But I can't even finish a story. I get about 2 pages in, give it to my best friend to read, and if she gives one criticism I toss it. That's why I'm a chicken, one bad thing said and I cry LOL! I will never get the guts to do it but I wish you all the luck!!!!

  7. @ jen go browse the editor section, usually there is a post at the top where editor with free time volunteer ;-) is where i found mine, never regretted it. (btw a new chapter from SIW is up, a new brother to read about) if you really are desperate i don't mind proofreading it, just poke if needed.

as for the gorillaz, i like them. also like the stuff he did with Blur (boys and girls for one, is a catchy tune)

  9. Thank you for the the info Anonymous! I remember when I first came to Lit and I realized that there was a top list. I scanned page after page searching for JUICY, my first submission. When I found myself on the list I was so freaking proud. I don't think I even imagined hitting number one. Thanks for your votes and feedback!

Shwww...I think I'm going to go lay down for a minute. I'm feeling light headed :)

  10. Pep, one thing you will almost certainly find as you continue to reach the number one ranking of the all time lists at Literotica is it's nearly impossible to stay at the top. Soular has been there many times over the last couple of years, and she always gets knocked down, usually by what I call a one-bomb. It's very easy, unfortunately, for a single individual to knock someone off the top perch, and it seems inevitable that someone will, sooner or later. Most of the time it doesn't take very long at all for that bomb to hit. Over and over I've seen a single extremely low vote drop a very highly rated story precipitously, and for no possible good reason. It appears that just happened to you, and then twice to soular, on two different stories. Some people play rough, obviously. It's just the way it is.

  11. So true, JG. Even when I went back to check the top list the very next day it was different. To explain to everyone else just what JG and I are talking about; if you look at numbers (votes, stars) sometimes other writers on Lit will give you low stars to knock your ranking down. I had another Lit author give one of my stories a wonderful comment but a low score. Most will do this anonymously, though. Anyways, back to writing!
