Kim Harrison; The Hollows Series

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone else read the Kim Harrison books? They take place in Cincinnati (My Favorite place to write about) and they deal with witches, vampires, demons, pixies and other supernatural beings that live alongside humans. Pale Demon is the next in the series and was released February 22nd and usually I am the first one to be waiting for the bookstore to open. I was just super super busy and toying with the idea of ordering it on my Nook. I'm just afraid that I'll be disappointed. What I mean is, I don't know if there is some strange transition between an ebook and a REAL book. I KNOW that I won't be disappointed with Kim's writing. When they turn a story into an ebook does it match word for word? I'm not taking any chances on missing out on anything the way you do when listening to books on tape.

Still an ebook novice...and haven't been very impressed with the stories I've purchased. I do recommend this series. It is light on sex and swearing but BIG in action, humor, romance and fun.

  1. Yep it matches word for word but I can only speak for the books I've got on my nook, they were books that were printed then later made into ebooks.

If you're looking for some really good ebooks try Katie MacCallister. She isnt IR but I love her stuff very witty and funny even the sex scenes are as funny as they aare hot. I'd lean toward the older stories of hers circa '05 like 'Hard Day's Knight' and 'A Girls Guide to Vampires' its dated but you'd read it over and over.

  4. Pep, I was addicted to that series...then she killed off Kisten (I think that was the spelling). I loved them so much together, I just couldn't go on. I read a couple more in the series, but I found myself reading to find out that he wasn't dead. She killed him and he wasn't coming back. :(

  5. I know. I really loved them together. And I was angry at Kim Harrison for writing it that way. It seemed so pointless. But now the sexual by-play between Rachel and Trent, and Al and even Jinx now that he can become human size. It is just really getting good again!

  6. Maybe I will give Harrison anothe try. I think it was around the time I had to put Laurell K. Hamilton and her Anita Blake series down as well. These great writers with such strong female characters were just pissing me off. I just put them all down for a while. Hamilton has great female protaganist that went down the tubes, in an effort to put sex for sex sake in a story. *smh*

  7. I totally agree with you about the Anita Blake books! At one time I read each voraciously. Then the sex just got outrageous (this coming from an erotic writer). I mean that is all there was. And Anita's constant need for approval became annoying. One minute she was tough as nails, then in every book she would act surprised that she was desired. The house full of sexy men, and the constantly being near raped--not to mention the fact that you are dating the master of the city wasn't a dead give-away????

    And she's kind of stupid.

She will repeat the same thing over and over trying to make sense of it and I'm screaming, 'Damn I got it 2 pages ago! Can you move on???'

LOL, yeah, I put that series down just so that I don't stroke out.

  8. OMG I thought I was the only one that felt that way about the Anita Blake series!!! I also thought that she had entirely toooo much detail, I love the detail that reading affords a person into the characters state of mind but I really like to use my imagination on certain things. When an author goes into to much detail it is kind of exhausting trying to conjure in my brain what is actually going on. She had a great concept but she tried to hard to top the last book. I haven't read any of her books since Micah because I lost track of who was who lol She went from no sex for a few books to Jean Claude Richard Nathaniel Jason Asher Micah and don't forget all the randoms. It kinda made my Vajayjay hurt reading about all that!

I have not read Kim Harris but if you recomend her I will try her out.

  9. Yeah I do recommend Kim Harrison. But I will say that people had recommended it to me several years before I got into it--it wasn't until I was told that it takes place in Ohio and actually the very same building I work it right now. And her chase scenes were the exact route I would take to board the bus (but I digress), the first few chapters kind of bored me. After that, I was like WOW, this is good.
